Many homes have aluminium doors and windows. They are light and easy to maintain which makes them great for the homes of the busy career person. Every now and then they do need to be replaced. It is possible to do it yourself, you just have to know how.
The first thing you need to do is find out how big the frames of your aluminium doors and windows need to be. You need to measure from the outside of the frame to the outside of the frame. It may help to draw a small schematic so that you can mark the measurements on it. Just to make sure that the aluminium doors and windows frames are not irregular it is best to take three measurements for both height and width. Do one at the top, one at the bottom and one in the middle of the frame.
Then you need to get the new frames. You can generally get them at a local home deco store. Most aluminium doors and windows are made to a standard size so it should be relatively easy to find the right size.
The next step is to remove the old frames. You need to remove the old putty and filler and clean the area where the frame will be placed. You can use a rough sand paper to remove any bits of putty that are sticking to the wall. The sand paper will make the surface a little rougher and this will allow the new frame’s putty to stick better.
Now you need to install the new frames. Place the new frame into the hole created by the removal of the old frame. Make sure it is straight. Now place your putty or cement between the frame and the wall to seal the gaps and make the frame stay in place. Leave it alone until the cement or putty has dried completely.
And now you new window or door frame is installed! All that remains is to put in the glass and let that set. Not too difficult is it? Now your windows and doors can look brand new all the time!
